I got this for my father who I care-take due to his Alzheimer's. He has trouble grasping regular silverware so I got him this and a set.He is able to grasp this, and is able to feed himself, which provides him with a sense of independence. The handles are made of rubber with ridges to help the person hold the utensil. The utensil itself seems to be made of regular utensil material. Overall it is very well made, and it is no harder to wash then regular silverware. There is no gaps in the rubber where food particles can hide, except for the round holes in the back, which I guess you could use to hang the utensil.note.. I bought a spoon, a fork, and a regular set of utensils just because I believe in having a spare of the most used utensil. This review will cover all.I got this for my father who I care-take due to his Alzheimer's. My special needs son would hurt himself so I use regular silverware with added foam handle. My mom has issues with motor skill and weakness in her hands. This is awesome. Reordering because she lost the last one. Wish they had a protection plan! ( kidding)It is sturdy & tough & great for someone losing their grip or too shaky for forks. I will buy an extra one soon. While my Aunt liked the shape, it's a bit too heavy for her nearly 100 y.o. hands to hold.Works well for my 92 year old mother
